Meet Our Judges
We are very proud to present to you our judges for JO AWC Belgium 2024
Hello, I am Anja Diels, 52 years old.
I reside in Herentals with my husband and our two children, Seppe and Gitte. In 2003, I became a judge. My journey in agility began back in 1992. Over the years, I have run with various breeds, including Dobermann, Belgian Tervuren, Border Collie, and Sheltie. My judging experience extends beyond Belgium—I’ve had the privilege of officiating at competitions in other countries as well. Notably, I’ve been part of the FMBB World Championships twice and judged the EO 2013 in Belgium.
My agility journey isn’t limited to judging; I’ve also competed at a high level internationally. Additionally, I’ve taken on the role of coaching the Belgian juniors. This year, I am honored to be selected as a competitor for the AWC (Agility World Championship) in my country, Belgium.
When designing agility courses, I prioritize speed and flow, while ensuring that they remain accessible to all participants. I believe that courses should be enjoyable for both competitors and spectators alike. I eagerly look forward to witnessing everyone’s runs and wish all the competitors the very best of luck.
It’s a privilege for me to judge this special competition. For more information, you can follow me on Instagram and Facebook.
My name is Gers Frank.
My agility started in 2004 with Wafke “Mukiwa’s Game of Love”, a medium Sheltie. After several successful years national and international, participation in Wk 2007 Hamar, 2008 Helsinki and also with Doy “Illusion of The Four bee’s” my next medium Sheltie in Kristianstad 2018. In the meantime I became agility judge.
National judge started 2013 where I judged several times the Cup and Grand Prix of Belgium.
Since 2015 I became international judge where I judged the WC-selections in Portugal 2015, the Border Collie Classic 2015 Luxembourg, ISAC 2018 in Italy and International Poodle 2019 in Germany.
My name is Karel Havlíček, I am 49 years old, and I live with my family and 5 Border collies in a small village Králec, Dolní Studénky in the Czech Republic. I was brought to agility in 2008 by my daughter Adele, who went through her beginnings and early successes with our Yorkshire Terrier named Ozzy. Gradually, this innocent activity for my daughter became a passion for the whole family. In 2011 we acquired the first Border collie and one by one others were added, we established a kennel, a training group where we are especially dedicated to preparing the young, we organize competitions within the Czech Republic. Dog care, together with agility is filling all our free time. As part of my agility career, I reached A3 level and after my experience I was captivated by the decision-making of agility. I became National judge at 2018 and International judge at 2019. As a referee, I had the opportunity to judge, among other things, the qualification competitions for WAO 2020 and for Czech Championship 2020 and 2021, Czech Championship 2020, 2022 and 2023, as well as Czech Juniors Championship 2020 and 2021 and Moravia Open 2021, 2023 I gained foreign experience in Slovakia, Germany, Finland, Greece, Poland, Austria, Estonia, Netherlands, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Belgium, Italy and Norway.
It was a honor to judge the FCI AWC 2023 in the Czech republic and it will be honor to judge the FCI JOAWC 2024 in Belgium.
My name is Jari Suomalainen. I´m a 52-year-old agilityjudge from Finland. I became a national and the same time an international FCI- judge in 2013. I live in Riihimäki with my wife, daughter and two kooikerhondjes, Flow and Leo. I started agility in 1995 with my dalmatians. Some of you, or your parents, may remember me when I competed with Kooiker Dog Frodo. In our long career we won both individual and team competition in AWC (2006), EO (2009), Nordic championships (individuals two times in a row, 2010 and 2011) and Finnish championships (individuals four times in a row 2008-2011).
Nowadays I don´t compete at this high level, because my hip and leg were operated ten years ago, and after that I can´t run as fast as I want to. But that leaves me more time for judging. Since 2013 I have judged in over twenty countries When I was a competitor, I loved full speed and accuracy. When I design my courses I aim to fulfill these elements. Also, I want that my courses are always safe even for the fastest dog. I want to offer a fair and fluent line for the dog, and if the handler makes a good course-plan she/he can also get a good and smooth line. I always wanted my courses to seem to be quite easy on the paper, but because of the speed they usually are not so easy. Of course, when designing championships courses, you have to take into account the nature of the competition. You can find my courses in my Facebook profile.
It is a great honor to be nominated to judge in FCI JOAWC-2024. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of fantastic runs and great emotions during the competition.
I wish all participants good luck – enjoy the competition!
Rules and regulations
Regulations for the Junior Open Agility World Championship
FCI-JO-AWC-rules-2024-2 (download)
The JO AWC is an agility competition which is officially supported by the FCI and is based on the FCI Agility regulations. The competition is open to all dogs, with or without pedigree. All National Member Organizations of the FCI or National Organizations with a close relationship to the FCI are invited to participate in this event. All competitors must be citizens of the country which they represent, or they must have their main residence there. Handlers with dual nationality can register only for one country.
All participating dogs must be licensed by their National Member Organization of the FCI or a National Organization with a close relationship to the FCI. All dogs must be 24 months or older on the day of the competition. Each handler can compete with a maximum of 4 dogs. A dog may only be entered in one age classification at JO AWC.
Each National Organization has the right to nominate competitors and to send the entries to the organizer by May 31st at the latest. Team leaders of the countries will send an information email to the organizer after which they will receive a confirmation of registration and an entry form. If countries decide to have a selection process, this must be open to all dogs (with or without pedigree). All countries participating can enter a maximum of 32 dogs, with a maximum of 8 dogs in any category. The hosting country is entitled to enter an extra team (4 dogs) in each height category. A list of reserve dogs and handlers can be attached to the entries (a country can send 1 reserve dog per 4 dogs, in each category). The reserve may take the place of an original entry, should the original competitor have to be replaced. The reserve may also be allocated an entry in case of an available spot after the closing of entries. If countries choose to have a selection process, this must be open to all dogs (with or without pedigree). The winners (same dog and handler) in “individual” (Small – Medium – Intermediate – Large) of the previous JO AWC may register to defend their title. These dogs will simply be added on to the number of dogs allowed for their country. A country may exceed its quota and additional dogs beyond the maximum will go on the waiting list. After the closing date for entries the organizers may select dogs from the waiting list. Only dogs already on the waiting list will be entered by the organizer.
The maximum number of entries is 700. The names of the 3 or 4 participants making up each team must be sent in before June 15th at the latest. After this date the organizer will combine the remaining participants who are not a member of any team into new teams.
The entry fees are €45,00 for individual or team, €55,00 for both competitions.
Veterinary inspection, identity check and height measuring
During the attendance check the identity of each dog will be checked. Each competitor will submit a document with their photograph confirming the date of birth. The dogs that fail the veterinary inspection are not allowed to take part in either practice or the competition.
All dogs which have not been measured at previous FCI World Championships, European Open or Junior Open Agility World Championships will be measured to check whether the dog is entered in the correct category. Dogs entered in the wrong category will be removed from the competition.
JO AWC Age Classification
- U12 – under 12 years old
- U15 – 12 to 14 years old
- U19 – 15 to 18 years old
It is the year in which the handler has a birthday that is taken into account, not the actual date of birth.

A Handler with more than one dog should have minimum 20 dogs between each dog (if possible by the number of competitors).

About Rabies
Vaccination, in addition to a valid European passport, identification by microchip and the proof of a correct immunization of the dog, cat or ferret against rabies, is still mandatory to leave the country, and even enter a rabies-free Member State of the EU. The same rules apply for every dog, cat or ferret crossing Belgian borders. The validity of the vaccination is calculated according to the instructions in the leaflet of the vaccine and is registered in the European passport. For an initial or so-called primo-vaccination this period starts at the earliest 21 days after the vaccination. Re-vaccination within the validity period is effective immediately; outside the validity period re-vaccination will be considered as a primo-vaccination.
